The WW Olympics is on !!!!

The Window Washer Olympics (WWO) is happening at my office now. Yes, you read me right my friends…it’s window washing. They have a huge banner down stairs with tv crews and Amazing Race-like contestants. The last I heard is the contestants are getting geared up with the harness. I am ready to wave and give my best smile if any one of them can make it to my 40th floor window. I think it is a reality show in the making. I got to give it up to the person that came up with this. I was google-ing WWO and found nothing. Not even from outside Malaysia. How original of them. I will update more after I go down and pass by to get my coffee.

Yeah, that is my office. Happy window washing guys!

Comments about Dogs in Islam

And everyday we learn something new. Be it scholastic or spiritual. The conventional Muslims in our country strongly believe that dogs are a big no-no and they are put to the level of disgust to pigs. The teachings of Islam where our main source should be from the Holy Quran never said anything that implied dogs are to dirty and are to be kept away from us. There are some very strong points to back this up coming from a good friend’s writings on this. Click here. And I raised a question on touching dogs with dry skin and the more i know. Click here.

I must say I was surprised at how the many things we believed could be fabricated truth.

A little acknowledgement to the person that wrote this doggy entry and opened my eyes, he is a good addition to my circle of acquaintance. He is liberal but thoughtful, resourceful and dares to say what he thinks and believes. Acquaintance is a weak word that I give him but enough to say that I admire how he thinks and hope I will have half of them along the way.

Happy but Stalling

I don’t want to grow up. I am not depressed nor anything. I feel nothing. I’ve got the drive to do things but I stall. I want to talk about anything and everything that comes to my head now. It does not have to be relevant nor reflective on me or whoever. Disclaimer.

I don’t understand why people get engaged if the wedding is going to be in less than 3 months? From my knowledge it is not something that the religion Islam requires. Engagement in the sense of giving a ring is more apt than wasting money on the whole exchange of 9 trays mostly for the collection of pictures. Just around the corner, the wedding happens and you over spent again.

It is not easy to create a website. Design and content are something that qualifies into a degree of 4 years. So here I am, struggling to create a website to be a platform of information on the EduPortal. First step, I surveyed the price to get a hosting and domain. The price is not too bad but designing the site myself will be like me trying to cook, which I can’t do. So I resorted to opening a blog to put all the needed info in. I was getting more and more questions on the EduPortal, and to sound less like a playback tape recorder what I do is I direct them to this blog. A Light bulb moment. *blink*.

Then there is this random thought of going back to Kuching for CNY because I miss my mom n pops so much. I wish they are here but I know when they are really here… I think otherwise. Despite all these mix feelings, I love them to bits and if only it was a perfect world where I could choose the living arrangements to my heart content. The thought of going back won’t happen because the flight tickets are so expensive now.

I am planning something but I cannot tell and I hope no one ask me what is. So if you are reading this, don’t ask me later what it is. I will only speak about it when I want to. I have a point in this and I am not rambling about who’s asking and telling. My point is it is so much fun planning something, and I am just counting days for it to spring up. 9/10 items checked. Being a grown up is terrible, you pay your own bills, pretend you know stuff, pretend you care about stuff because the world expects you to.

Education Portal - why didn't I think of something like this?

My dad’s golf buddy showed me a really good online education site for school-going students. The idea is brilliant where the kids can do their revision and take quizzes and mock exams using the portal at home. All they need is a computer and Internet connection. The price of this service is very reasonable too.

The portal consists of the Malaysia Education Board’s past year’s exam papers and compiled other sets of exercises. All in there are at least 1000 questions per subject. What caught my interest most is the portal can update parents with the performance of their kids via email or SMS. Not bad!! Very suitable for parents on the run plus the parent doesn’t have to be IT savvy at all with the available SMS facilities. But if you are a parent and reading this, you must spend a lot of time on the computer .... :)

Kids nowadays spend a lot of time on the computer and enjoy using it. I think it will be really easy to get them to study with this service since you’re asking them to get on the computer. The portal allows the kids to go through every subject and is assessed on the spot.

While I heard about this education portal a few months back, I did not pay much attention because I don’t really know anyone with kids. I would have recommend it to anyone I know with school-going children because it’s a very good idea. I know I’ll like it because I’m half a kid myself. And by doing more exercises and knowing the likes of what could possibly come out in the exams is extremely helpful.

An older cousin was complaining to me about juggling time and her kids and everything that comes when you have a kid – school, tuition, etc. I told her about this education portal thing and it worked for her kids. On top of that it saved her a lot on tuition fees. (They’re charging like mad for tuition these days!!)So if anyone wants to have a look at it, do drop me a mail. Spread the word. Maybe a friend’s neighbour’s great grand-niece can get better grades from this and score that scholarship or something
